About this charter
Foxfire Fishing Charters is a family-owned, owner-operated halibut charter based in Homer, Alaska — the self-proclaimed Halibut Capital of the World. Captain Grant J. Peel, a USCG 100-Ton Master with a B.S. in Ocean Engineering, has spent over 10 seasons targeting Alaskan halibut in Kachemak Bay and Cook Inlet; he took the helm in 2016 and became owner in 2024, personally overseeing the re-powering and rewiring of the vessel. The M/V Foxfire is a 50-foot Delta-design boat powered by twin 500-HP John Deere engines, with a heated cabin seating up to 20, extra-tall safety railings, onboard restroom, and high-tech fish-finders — making it one of the most stable and comfortable charter boats in the harbor. Offering both shared half-day halibut trips (departing 7 AM) and fully private full-day charters for groups, Foxfire stands out for Captain Grant's engineering expertise, hands-on deck participation, and an upbeat, family-friendly atmosphere.
